Description
Fort Chaffee, Ark.: A Vietnamese girl plays in the grass at Fort Chaffee May 2 shortly after arrival with the first contingent of refugees to be quartered at the fort. President Ford, described as 'damned mad' about widespread opposition to resettlement of some 130,000 Vietnamese and Cambodians in the U.S., appealed May 6 to the nation to 'welcome these people.' 'I am primarily very upset because the United States has had a long tradition of opening its doors to immigrants of all nations,' he said at his evening news conference.
