Description

Tuscaloosa, Alabama: Alabama Governor George Wallace of Alabama, the 'schoolhouse door' behind him, holds up his hand to indicate to Deputy U.S. Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach (back to camera), June 11, that he is forbidding entrance to two Negroes who had planned to enroll in the all-white University of Alabama. In refusing to admit the Negroes, Wallace ignored a last-minute order from President Kennedy to 'cease and desist.'
