Abstract

We revisit previously reported observations of apparent ideal diamagnetism in graphene–n-heptane–permalloy systems. While the initial measurements suggested a Meissner-like response, subsequent experiments revealed inconsistent behavior, including signal freezing and occasional paramagnetic responses. Similar signals were also observed in the absence of graphene, indicating that the effect is not intrinsic to the graphene layer. We show that the observed behavior can be explained by magnetic field redistribution associated with induced magnetization and inhomogeneities in the permalloy foil. In particular, the one-sided flux (Mallinson) effect provides a qualitative mechanism for suppression of the magnetic field at the sensor location, mimicking ideal diamagnetic screening. These results clarify the origin of the previously reported effect.
