Abstract
"Now is the time of year when people of all faith traditions come together to celebrate and give thanks for the blessings they received. But with war raging on multiple fronts and with all the intractable problems we’re experiencing, like homelessness, drug addiction, and mass shootings, it seems impossible and perhaps even insensitive to get into the holiday spirit. The fact that people seem increasingly focused on the negative rather than the positive is indicated by consumer surveys of people’s attitudes that attest to a growing malaise in our nation.
That’s why my attending a recent banquet that celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Simon Scholars Program was the boost I needed to begin thinking more about all the good things in our world rather than the bad."
