Description
Six men on the snow-covered Protector, the pioneer Submarine Torpedo Boat of the Lake level-keel type, designed for coastal defense. It was built by the Lake Torpedo Boat Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1901-1902 and launched there on November 1, 1902. [Alexander Graham Bell may be the man at top right. He later appeared in the Williamson film Wonders of the Deep, descending in the photosphere.]
