Abstract

"The PhD format has done more to hinder than to help the EdD provide practitioners with the knowledge, skills, behaviors and dispositions needed for effective leadership in educational settings (Griffiths, Stout and Forsyth, 1988; Townsend, 2002; Murphy and Vnesenga, 2005). This is particularly evident in the standards-based performance culture expected of schools and school districts. In effect, it fails as a distinctive advanced professional practice degree."
