Abstract

La comunicación entre doctor y paciente es esencial para que el paciente esté informado sobre su salud y pueda implementar el tratamiento efectivamente. Teniendo transparencia entre la gente crea interacciones que tienen más impacto. Si el paciente está incorporado en los diálogos sobre su salud, pueden poner las recomendaciones de su doctor en práctica con un mejor entendimiento. En medicina, las barreras de comunicación pueden limitar el nivel de comprensión y prevenir estas discusiones esenciales. Una manera de romper la barrera del lenguaje es con la propuesta de un sistema universal para proveer servicios bilingües que identifique la disparidad, encuentre los recursos apropiados, y mantenga la satisfacción de sus pacientes. Primero, los hospitales tienen que identificar las necesidades de sus pacientes y establecer cuáles lenguajes sus pacientes hablan principalmente. Luego, tienen que encontrar trabajadores que tengan las capacidades apropiadas. Se puede implementar el uso de traductores, incentivos de pago, e incorporar cursos de otras lenguas en escuelas de medicina para que los doctores se puedan comunicar directamente con sus pacientes. Con estos requisitos cumplidos, los hospitales tienen que utilizar sus recursos efectivamente y mantenerlos. Comparar iniciativas de otros países contribuirá a encontrar las técnicas más efectivas para incorporar un plan universal en medicina.

Communication between a doctor and their patient is essential to ensuring that the patient remains informed about their health. Having that level of transparency creates more impactful interactions during a doctor visit. If the patient is involved in conversations about their health, they will be able to better implement the recommendations of their doctor. By simply informing the patient, they will forget, but if they are involved, they will learn. In health care, language barriers can limit the level of understanding and prevent essential discussions from being fully understood. This project will provide one approach to breaking language barriers with the proposal of a universal system for bilingual services that identify and eradicate the disparities, provide the appropriate resources, and maintain patient satisfaction in order to create more accessible healthcare. This will be analyzed by looking at past trends in language barriers. Initially, the hospitales must identify the needs of their patients and determine which languages their patients primarily speak. Then, they need to hire employees that have the appropriate skills to fulfill the needs of the patients. The use of translators, pay incentives, and incorporating language courses in the medical school curriculum so doctors can directly communicate with patients, are necessary resources, as previous studies have suggested. With these requirements met, the hospitals need to utilize their resources and maintain a more efficient system. In this project, comparative initiatives from other countries will contribute to finding the most viable techniques to incorporate into the universal language plan for medicine that is being proposed.
