Abstract
Throughout this research project, we will be testing if meditation can reduce stress in college students as well as increase emotional intelligence. We selected this topic because as college students ourselves, we see firsthand the impact of stress and the unhealthy coping mechanisms that some students choose, such as partying and alcohol. For our literature review, we gathered various information and studies focusing on college stress levels, the benefits of meditation, and the impact of emotional intelligence on academics and one’s mental state. We will be selecting our participants for the study through the Chapman University subject pool for communication students. We will be having a meditation session and provide a brief survey before and after focusing on one’s current stress levels and feelings. Through this study, we can see if meditation can seriously improve the quality of life of students at Chapman University.
