Subic Bay, Philippines: Maj. Gen. Kenneth Houghton, commander of 3rd Marine Division, congratulates left-handed Lance Cpl. R.J. Hughes of Louisville, Ky., after awarding him Purple Heart 5/19. Hughes suffered burns on right arm when helicopter exploded on way to Koh Tang island. Looking on is Sgt. Victor Salinas of Corpus Christi, Tex., who was on same copter and similarly honored by Houghton.
