Description
Oxford, Miss: Squinting into the early morning sun, James Meredith, the first Negro ever enrolled at the University of Miss. goes to his first class 10/2 under watchful eyes of US Marshalls, one of them barely visible at upper right. Meredith's entry to the previously all-white campus triggered demonstrations which were stopped only after US Army troops -- 4,000 strong -- moved into the area.
