Abstract
Never before in the history of the pharmacy profession have pharmacists enjoyed as broad an array of career opportunities as they do in the opening decade of the 21st century. The reasons for this optimistic situation have to do with supply and demand, but also with the profession's own battle, still vigorously under way more than a decade after Hepler and Strand1 defined pharmaceutical care, to redefine pharmacists' roles in the health care system.
