Washington: With Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird at his side, Pres. Nixon announces to newsmen at the White House 1/13 that he is withdrawing another 70,000 combat troops from South Vietnam, reducing U.S. forces there 69,000 by May 1. Nixon also said that he will announce a further troop withdrawal before the May 1 target date.
